A Pre-Action Sprinkler is a water-based fire-protection system whose pipework stays dry until a separate detection event opens a pre-action valve, admitting water that discharges only when individual sprinkler heads then operate. In data centers this two-stage arrangement guards against accidental discharge and leaks damaging IT equipment while retaining code-required water suppression as a backstop.
