Microsegmentation is a fine-grained form of network segmentation that isolates individual workloads, applications, or even processes and enforces security policy between them, often down to a single host. Typically implemented in software within virtualized or cloud data center environments, it dramatically limits east-west lateral movement by an attacker and is a key enabler of zero-trust architectures.
