A Bastion Host is a specially hardened, tightly monitored server exposed at a network boundary to provide controlled access into a protected environment, such as a management or cloud network. Stripped of unnecessary services and closely audited, it withstands attack while acting as the single gateway through which remote administration passes, similar in role to a jump host.
