Fiber Splicing is the joining of two optical fibres to form a continuous low-loss light path, either by fusion splicing (melting the glass ends together with an electric arc) or mechanical splicing. In data centers it is used to terminate backbone fibres onto pigtails in splice trays and enclosures, producing permanent, low-attenuation connections verified by loss testing.
