Public Peering is the exchange of traffic between networks over a shared internet exchange fabric, where each participant connects once and can reach many others through the exchange switch. It is cheaper and quicker to establish than individual cross-connects and suits moderate traffic volumes, while very large flows often graduate to dedicated private peering for control and capacity.
