A switched rack PDU is an intelligent rack power distribution unit whose individual outlets can be turned on or off and metered remotely over the network, enabling outlet-level control, sequenced power-up, and reboot of unresponsive equipment. It extends the metered PDU with per-outlet switching. Data center operators use switched PDUs for remote power cycling, capacity tracking, and preventing unauthorized load additions at the rack.
