An Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) is a device that senses loss of the normal power source and automatically transfers the load to an alternate source, such as a generator, then transfers back when normal power is restored. Typically electromechanical, it is fundamental to standby power schemes, coordinating utility-to-generator transitions safely and without operator action.
