The Main Distribution Area (MDA) is the central space in a data center's structured-cabling hierarchy that houses the main cross-connect and core network equipment. In data centers, as defined by TIA-942, it is the hub to which horizontal and zone distribution areas connect, forming the backbone's central point. It typically contains the highest-tier switching and routing.
