Backbone Cabling is the higher-capacity cabling that interconnects a data center's main and horizontal distribution areas, entrance rooms and equipment rooms, as distinct from the horizontal runs to individual racks. Usually singlemode or high-grade multimode fiber in large trunks, it carries aggregated traffic between distribution points and is engineered for growth and diverse pathways.
