A Blast Load is the transient pressure and impulse applied to a structure by an explosion, characterised by a steep pressure rise and rapid decay. Design against it uses dynamic analysis and ductile detailing to absorb energy. For high-security or critical data-center facilities, blast loading governs the design of perimeter walls, glazing, doors and standoff distances to keep the shell and occupants protected.
