An Open-Ended Activity is one lacking either a predecessor (no logic driving its start) or a successor (no logic driven by its finish), leaving part of the network unconnected. Open ends distort float and critical-path calculations, so schedule quality checks such as the DCMA 14-point assessment limit them. In data-center schedules every activity except the true start and finish should be fully linked.
