Total Float is the amount of time an activity can be delayed from its early start without delaying the project completion date, calculated as the difference between its late and early dates. Activities with zero total float are critical. In data-center scheduling total float identifies where slack exists to reallocate resources and which activities must not slip if the completion date is to hold.
