Scope 2 Emissions are indirect greenhouse-gas emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, steam, heating, or cooling that a data center consumes. Because IT and cooling loads make grid electricity the dominant energy input, Scope 2 is usually the largest category in a data center's carbon footprint. Under the GHG Protocol it is reported using both location-based and market-based methods.
