Scope 1 Emissions are direct greenhouse-gas emissions from sources a data-center operator owns or controls, as defined by the GHG Protocol. In data centers they arise chiefly from on-site diesel or gas backup generators, fuel combustion for heating, and fugitive leaks of refrigerants and fire-suppression agents. They are reported alongside Scope 2 and Scope 3 in corporate carbon inventories.
