A Floating Data Center is a facility built on a barge, ship or offshore platform, drawing on surrounding water for cooling and sometimes on marine or offshore power. Nautilus Data Technologies built a waterborne facility at Stockton, California, using river water for closed-loop cooling. Floating designs can sidestep land scarcity and tap abundant cooling water near dense coastal markets.
