Earthwork Balance is the design objective of matching the volume of excavated material (cut) to the volume needed for filling on a site, so little or no soil must be imported or exported. Achieving balance reduces haulage cost, programme time and environmental impact, and in data-center site development it is a key consideration when setting platform levels and grading.
