Earth fault loop impedance is the total impedance of the path a fault current follows from a line conductor through the fault to earth and back to the source, determining how much current flows during an earth fault. It must be low enough for protective devices to trip within the required disconnection time. Data center electricians measure it during testing to verify safe automatic disconnection of supply.
