A Diesel Rotary UPS (DRUPS) is an uninterruptible power supply that stores energy kinetically in a spinning flywheel and integrates a diesel engine, so on a mains failure the flywheel carries the load for the seconds needed to start and couple the engine. It combines UPS and generator functions in one machine and avoids large battery rooms. DRUPS units are common in mission-critical sites needing long-duration ride-through.
