Cost Variance (CV) is an earned value metric equal to earned value minus actual cost (CV = EV - AC), showing whether work performed cost more or less than budgeted; a negative value means over budget. On data-center projects CV, with the Cost Performance Index, measures cost efficiency and underpins the estimate at completion and forecasting.
