A Backup Appliance is a purpose-built system that combines backup software, storage and often deduplication to protect data. In data centers it provides a turnkey target for backups and rapid restores, frequently featuring compression, encryption and replication to a second site or the cloud. It simplifies data protection compared with assembling separate software and storage.
