An Access Control List (ACL) is a defined set of rules specifying which individuals or systems are permitted or denied access to a particular resource, area, or network. In physical security it governs who may enter specific zones and when; in networking it filters traffic by criteria such as source, destination, and port. Keeping ACLs current is central to least-privilege enforcement.
