A VRLA (Valve-Regulated Lead-Acid) Battery is a sealed, maintenance-light lead-acid battery long used for UPS energy storage. Its valve-regulated design recombines gases internally, allowing installation without topping up electrolyte. Lower in cost than lithium-ion but with shorter life, larger footprint and greater temperature sensitivity, it remains widely deployed though it is steadily giving way to lithium.
