A Virtual Power Plant (VPP) is a cloud-coordinated aggregation of distributed energy resources such as batteries, generators, and flexible loads that is dispatched as a single controllable unit to the grid. It sells capacity, frequency response, or demand reduction into energy markets. Data center operators enroll their UPS batteries and standby generators in VPPs to earn revenue and provide grid services when idle.
