A Spine Switch is a high-capacity core switch in a leaf-spine (Clos) data center fabric that interconnects every leaf switch, forming the backbone that carries traffic between racks. Spine switches do not connect directly to servers; instead they provide uniform, low-latency paths so any leaf can reach any other leaf in a single hop, and fabric capacity scales by adding more spines.
