A Solid-State Transformer (SST) is a power-electronic device that performs voltage conversion using high-frequency switching and a small high-frequency magnetic core instead of a bulky line-frequency iron core. It can regulate voltage, correct power factor, interface DC sources, and provide fast fault isolation. In data centers it is emerging as a way to link medium-voltage utility feeds directly to DC or battery buses with reduced footprint and active grid support.
