Shared Fate

Redundancy Topologies
Also known asCommon Cause FailureCommon Mode FailureShared-Fate Dependency

Shared Fate is the condition in which supposedly independent or redundant components depend on a common element, so a single failure affects all of them together, undermining the intended redundancy. Examples include two power paths sharing a breaker, conduit, or cooling source. Identifying and removing shared-fate dependencies is essential to achieving genuine fault tolerance.
