Round-trip efficiency is the ratio of energy retrieved from a storage system to the energy put into it over a full charge-discharge cycle, expressed as a percentage. Losses arise in the battery, inverter, and thermal management. It is a key metric for sizing and economics of data center energy storage, since low round-trip efficiency inflates both energy cost and the cooling load imposed by conversion losses.
