A Break Tank is a storage cistern that creates a physical separation, via an air gap on its inlet, between the incoming utility water main and the building's downstream system. In a data center it protects the public supply from backflow, provides buffer storage, and gives booster pumps a stable open-vented source for cooling make-up and domestic distribution.
